Is that a bit part an extra or what? Also, I've done a lot of film submissions that I don't even know if I may have gotten credit for. I've also done a few student films and am working on one of my own.
I've been trying to network the old world way. Not very successful so far when the news got out that cell phones cause cancer. It is hard when everyone uses facebook, linked in, twitter, backstage etc...
It is a good idea to join any of these to reconnect?

A cameo role or cameo appearance (/ˈkæmioʊ/; often shortened to just cameo) is a brief appearance of a known person in a work of the performing arts, such as plays, films, video games toys books computer games [1] and television, sometimes appearing as themselves. These roles are generally small, many of them non-speaking ones, and are commonly either appearances in a work in which they hold some special significance (such as actors from an original movie appearing in its remake), or renowned people making uncredited appearances. Short appearances by celebrities, film directors, politicians, athletes, musicians or even characters from other fictional works are common. A crew member of the show or movie playing a minor role can be referred to as a cameo as well. A cameo should not be confused with a guest appearance, being different in that guest appearances do acknowledge the person in question for who they are, be it by explicitly naming them or in the work's credits.

How short is the film? Really, it depends on how important the part was to the film as a whole. If it was just the CD salesman who said "Oh, you'll want to buy a player too, miss", then it's a bit part. If the entire film was just a few minutes and the 3-4 lines were those of the main character's crucial best friend, then it counts as a supporting role, or you could maybe fudge it into featuring.
Honestly, I'm not sure what else you're asking. Do you mean you want to reconnect to old friends and colleagues? Facebook, email, and reunions organized by whatever third party you have in common are the easiest ways to get back in touch.
