What would Mark Zuckerberg have recieved moneywise if he had sold facebook to Yahoo for $1 billion? - William M - 01-31-2013 09:22 PM

I found out that facebook was offered a buyout offer of $1 billion from Yahoo to buy them out. I want to know what Mark Zuckerberg's share of that would have been if he had accepted the offer as he was only 22 at the time, how rich would he have become at that age if he had accepted the offer? Please answer for best answer.

here's the story as I understood it:

Yahoo offered him 1 billion. However, he did a marketing study and figured that 1 billion would have been the ad revenue over 3-5 years (which is pretty much the standard buyout for an online company.) However, he figured he could make 10-25 billion over 20 years, which is the standard buyout for a brick-and-mortar company. Yahoo, of course, didn't want to pay that.

So, on one side of the fence, he could have made 1 billion. From his point of view, he could have made 20 billion. But, since Yahoo usually buys everything in stocks, any amount they offered would be less than half the value now.

if he is sole owner he would get $1 billion
