How do I block certain websites on Googlr Chrome? - russianjewishandproudofit - 02-01-2013 09:10 AM

I need to type a paper and I want to block myself from accessing websites like Facebook, twitter, tumblr, YouTube, email, and more so that I don't get distracted and then un-block them when my paper is done. Can I do that on Google Chrome and, if so, how?

It cannot be done directly in Google Chrome without an extension. Go to the Google Chrome web store. Download an extension such as Nanny for Google Chrome. You can also modify the hosts file which is part of the operating system.

Have someone you trust password protect the extension and/or hosts file until you have completed the paper. This will prevent temptation.

My friend recommended it for me, haha.
He said, you can block sites like facebook, etc. for a set amount of time. That's why it helps you "concentrate" haha.
But he said, you shouldn't set the time for TOOOO long so yeah... cuz you really won't be able to check it... :X
