How to market/advertise a class lanyard? - Joseph - 02-01-2013 03:40 PM

I have this econ project to where we need to do our own fundraiser to raise a certain amount for prom/grad night etc and we decided to do a class lanyard. How should we go about when advertising this product?

This depends a lot on the basic factors:
(1) What is your target audience? In other words, who is most likely to buy your product?
(2) What resources do you have for marketing? This would include money, volunteers, wall space, etc.
(3) What demand do you anticipate for the product? For instance, if people think that a hand-made lanyard in school colors is even cooler than Justin Bieber and Portlandia combined, then all you need to do is post an announcement on FaceBook and wait for them to come to you. If the demand is dependent on the pricing, you'll need to do some thinking about the price point, and then market to account for that. For instance, a $1 lanyard says "Cheap enough to use it as backpack rick-rack", where $10 makes it more of a premium item for a particular use.

Can you use the lanyards to promote prom attendance?
Can you make them a romantic item?
Can you use them to back school spirit?
Can you figure out extra uses for them?

I hope this helps; since you've told us zip about your school, your community, particular strengths and weaknesses, etc., it's pretty hard to come up with a marketing plan.
