I guess you could just keep following more people. It doesn't matter who, and then once you get a bunch of followers, just unfollow the people that you randomly followed.

I'm not sure how you would get a lot of followers on twitter. But on instagram, you just comment on picture on the popular page and that'll get you followers. I did that and I had from 24 followers to about 100 in just a few days of doing that. And also post pictures so that the people wouldn't unfollow you.
