Creating a fan page is free but promoting it via ads to increase your fan base has a fee. First you need to have a facebook account which will become the admin of the fan page. This may or may not be your personal facebook account. To advertise, you will have to log in your credit card information and specify your target market.

Fan pages are free, sidebar advertisements are not, as the person above me stated.

However there are many other ways to promote your business and accumulate a fan base on Facebook. One way is to simply invite all of your friends, if nothing else, they will at least look at the page they get invited to, but there are bound to be a few who will join. From there, word will spread just from someone seeing that your friend became a fan of it, which will peak others interest.

As others have stated, sidebar advertising is not free, but I would not recommend purchasing ads that link to your facebook fan page, have then link to your website. Besides inviting all your friends, you can create accounts on other social networking sites such as twitter, myspace, linkedIn and start searching for your target audience (the people who would want your product). Provide them with something of value so you're not just spamming, and people will join. The biggest cost in this game is time.

There are some basic steps to marketing the new business online...that is absolutely free of cost, you can do all the important things to promote your business on facebook. it has a large number of users, this is big social marketing site. you need to promote your business by making a your own network on facebook, first make a profile and a group of facebook user then share information about your business with them and expand social network, can you do it all yourself if not, then use diffrent trick to improve your business. While surfing i found a company that provides the service in the field of site promotion that is 'magicsolv.com.' You can try their prmotional services and take their assistance. I also took services from them to marketing my new set up business and got some possitive results. it is the most effective way to be noticed by the large number of internet users.I hope you will find some fruitful results."
