Minimum Online activity - would you hire me? - Mike - 02-02-2013 09:09 AM

I am employed at the time. I work from 8 to 16 o'clock. I have one child that I take care for alone (single parent). I have training (sport) in the afternoon. I do not have Facebook page, twitter account or LinkedIn account, mostly because I do not have time to stay on internet for as long as it takes in order to be up-to-date with everything on it. So technically I do not use social online networking during business hours or in free time. My online activity is based on my work needs - meaning, if I need something for my work I go online, other then that and local news and weather report I do not use internet. My question is, is this wrong? I would like to change my job and look for the new one but everywhere they are asking for Facebook page, LinkedIn profile etc. In my head it is better that I am not out there, that if I have a job I do the job I am payed for, not hang on web (if that is not my job - to hang on web). I tried Facebook once, I registered, looked around for 5 minutes and for 6 month I completely forgot that I registered on Facebook. In period of 6 months I remembered that Facebook even exists two times. I was working on huge project at the time so I was in the project all the time, sometimes I forget to check my email for weeks. In terms of seeking new job how bad is this? I do not have time to register on Facebook, look for the profiles, friends, add pictures and rest of it... Even asking this question took me 2 months ( I was planning to ask it but the weeks of work just vent by). So, my minimum online activity in today's world, and you are Employer looking to hire new employee, how would I pass?

They don't have time either. If your actively applying and they like you, let them ask and then update the page. Otherwise don't even give it to them. It's in the interview you tell them you'll bring a print out when you update it or some malarkey. Once they see you it will be a done deal anyway. But I do think there are some good free sites on getting specific positions and even information about specific companies and their webpages, articles by former and current employees and how to get the yob. I wouldn't want to work for people who are too skittish anyway. That's not my type of working environment and that type of person in never happy until they give you an early coronary.
