How far back are we talking here? 20 years? 50 years? last century? last millenium?

Economic:
1) China, Korea, India has become known as the emerging economies after they have provided cheap and educated high skill labour
2) Japan has started expanding since 1868, but its greatest economic expansion occured during the 60s-80s
3) in the space of 50 years, South Korea has increase its GDP per capita by at least 17 fold.
4) in 1991, India has adopted a market based economy
5) in the late 2000s, India has doubled its hourly wage compared to the previous decade, but many people still live in extreme poverty
6) Asian financial crisis 1997

Political:
1) China has some riots and human rights issues recently
2) Japan changed its jurdical system to gear more towards Roman (European) and Common (English and US) law during the mid 19th Century
3) China's imperial rule ended in 1912.
4) Japan declared war on the US during WW2
5) India gained its independence in 1947
6) In 1947, India has also separated itself from Pakistan and became 2 nations.
7) Sometime after the world wars, Korea decided to split between the north and the south
8) Japan annexed Korea in 1910.

Social:
1) Slums have become a problem in India, China. (I am not sure about Korea.)
2) Jobs are scarce in all countries.
3) There is this idea that there is a better life in urban areas than rural areas in India, China and possibly Korea. it drove and maintained urbanisation/migration
4) China has a one child policy, after years of claiming that a country should grow strong with numbers

Hope this helps
