Prince William & Prince Harry live in a world full of electronics, facebook, twitter, cell phones etc. How has the current royal family changed & how is it different from the royals in the past?

When in the past?
Things change pretty rapidly, these days...people are extremely different than they were some ten or twenty years ago.

In the past (the distant past) royalty were the surpreme rulers. They didn't answer to parliament, or to legal authorities. They didn't always answer to church authorities either - as witness Henry Vlll
But for all the apparent luxury in their lives, they didn't have hot running water, no showers, no laundry machines, and ran the risk of food poisoning at every meal due to the unsanitary conditions under which they lived.
