Critics often charge that the media's portrayal of violence plays a role in the recent shootings in high schools across America. How much of a role do you think the media play? What other agents of socialization also contribute?

The most accurate predictor of violence is the income gap. The gap between the have and the have nots is the biggest cause of crime. In general there are countries like Canada that have far more guns per person then the USA that don't have near the violent crime. There are many democratic socialized nations in europe that have gun freedom but hardly any crime. They measure the difference between the top 20% and the bottom 20% and the usa is the highest.....as well we have the most crime and the most imprisoned people. For example: we have more people in prison then communist china that has a vastly larger population. BOTTOM LINE IN INCOME INEQUALITY IS THE BIGGEST REASON FOR CRIME. HIGHER TAXES AND MORE STRONG SOCIAL SAFETY NETS=LESS CRIME,LESS PRISONS,LESS POLICE, MORE OVERALL HAPPINESS.......ADD VIOLENT MEDIA TO SENATIZE THE YOUNG MEN AND YOU GET HIGH VIOLENT CRIME RATES.
