I have a lot of followers and I have over 4,000 tweets, but not a lot of people retweet me. The stuff I tweet about is usually quotes I get from Tumblr and lines from songs and sometimes funny sh*t my friend's and I say and inside jokes, but sometimes people will retweet me, but not often... People retweet me like twice a month pretty much. I think I sometimes tweet really good stuff. Help... Follow me I follow back(: https://twitter.com/#!/FoRealDc1OO

Good tweets not only build followers but also get retweeted more, this site has some good tweets that will help you build up followers
