How to tell if the boss has blocked facebook? - dee-lightful - 02-14-2013 04:01 AM

Hi Everyone was wondering if you could help! As of a couple of days ago in our office we could access the facebook main page, and when we go to log in (we can enter our user name and password) it is saying "page cannot be displayed"

Does this sound like our boss has blocked facebook?
And before anyone makes any silly comments I use this before work starts at 9am and on my lunchbreak

Yes. Many firms now put a barr on employees personal network activities to prevent the charger being overloaded or to stop incoming viruses and spy-ware attached to non firm related ports. They particularly dislike photos (for obvious reasons...) and, as you have pointed out, they want to prevent abuse of firm time for private use. So it is quite possible that the IT engineers have programmed the system to reject certain applications.
If the firm does not inform the staff officially, you can ask what their tolerance is to using the computer in your private time for your own purposes and what they are barring.
