Why is it so hard to get answers to my questions? - Kristy - 02-17-2013 09:14 PM

When I use to get on this site I would get tons of answers. Now when I ask a question it's on page 6 right after I post and I get maybe 4 answers if I am lucky. Sometimes more but not often,
PS: I have asked some different questions. Usually for advice/opinions on tings. It is just sometimes easier to ask a stranger,

Ask something that hasn't been asked 100 times maybe? Rarely do I ever skip back 6 pages.

Probably people don't understand your questions. But I could hardly get 4 answers, most I've ever gotten was 3

Intelligent question fend to get fewer of them and as long as you get one that answers your questions properly you are doing well when you look at some of the other daft ones.

Because this site is so cluttered with nonsense questions like "why can't I get attention? PLS PAY ATTENTION TO ME 10PTS FOR BEST ANSWER!" ...so legitimate questions get lost in between all of those.

This is an information exchange site -- not a chat room or social contact site or discussion forum or popularity contest. Questions here must be seeking knowledge or advice of general interest to the community. Answers must attempt to answer the question. If you get one good answer that really does answer your question, you're answered; it's enough.

When you signed up to use this site, you agreed to follow the Community Guidelines here. Please read them. They are short and only take a real minute to read through. Then you'll see exactly what kind of site this is and isn't. The Guidelines are found under the ABOUT tab at the top of the page.

Once you've read them, there is even a short quiz you can take that can get you 20 extra points. http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines/quiz It also lets you know if you have understood the Guidelines as well as you think you have. Violations cost 10 points each. Be sure you know how to avoid them.

There are several general reasons questions are not answered. Without examples, it is really hard to help you. #1 may apply since you mention asking strangers is easier.

1. Dear Abby type questions
2. Obvious violations
3. Really technical questions
4. Poorly written questions (all CAPS for example)
5. Using text and twitter speak instead of English
6. Asking about very archaic things that people have little interest in
7. Not enough detail
8. Wrong category
9. Medical questions - the answer is ALWAYS "see a doctor"
10. Too time consuming
11. Too much extraneous material
