My dell laptop won't work with headphones? - Liana - 02-18-2013 12:31 PM
Okay I'm not sure which dell laptop I have but every time I plug in headphones in the little side botton I can still hear the sound outside of the headphones and not with them on. I'm not sure what's wrong but if anyone has any idea or can direct me to someone who does, I would be SO thankful.

Firstly check that it is the headphone jack not the microphone jack.
Secondly if it is still not working try another set of headphones.
Thirdly if it still doesn't work it is the laptop jack.

set this up in the sound portion of the control panel. start-settings-control panel-sound

Based on your description, the issue is more likely related to the audio drivers. Please visit http://www.support.dell.com/ and input your Service Tag to get updated drivers specific to your computer.
If that doesn't help, try running the Dell Diagnostics Audio Tests. If it fails the speaker tests, then there is the possibility of a failed sense pin in the headphone jack. You can follow the instructions from http://dell.to/g8qNbJ
