Intermittent internet connectivity, why? - FriendlyMan - 02-19-2013 04:40 AM

I have a 2WIRE router. Never had a problem having wireless internet to my 8-year-old laptop.

Now I bought an Alienware Aurora (type of Dell) computer, and it has a good wireless card.

There is internet, but always have disconnectivity each minute for about 30 seconds. It is very annoying, and almost always when I close a webpage or try to open one. I could see the red light on the router.

I re-installed the network driver, but it didn't help. The distance is about 12 feet only between router and PC.

What do you recommend to get rid of this problem?

my guess is that your new laptop runs Win7 or Win8. check compatibility of your router. MS introduced many things to improve performance but this also meant that some older network hardware may not work. There are probably settings that can bring the machine to compatible state but in our case we simply replaced router.

Hello,
My name is Krishna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. Try running the automated network troubleshooter and see if it helps. These troubleshooters aren't designed to fix every problem, but they're a useful tool to try because they can often save you time and effort.

To open the Network troubleshooter, Right-click the network icon or in the notification area of your taskbar, and then click Troubleshoot problems.

You can also try the troubleshooting steps mentioned on http://dell.to/J6tLGt .
