i accidentally clicked a facebook virus. how can i get rid of the malware it may have stored on my computer? i'm running symantec and spybot search and destroy. would a system restore get rid of it? anything else i should download? i'm geeking.

Download and install malwarebytes and run that. Should get rid of it.

I am not saying to remove it, but Spybot is not as good as it use to be ... (hey .. if you like it, ... KEEP IT INSTALLED) ...Malwarebytes and Super Anti-spyware are the two best Malware scanners I think and they are both free (SAS even has a portable version that you can run ... even if you can not install it (the regular version, I mean))

These are a few tips to help you clean your computer of various types of infections. I am not saying this is a shore-fire way of getting rid of everything, but it can get rid of most infection related issues.
Some of these scanners (to fully get rid of infections) have to be ran in Safe Mode. To do that, before the Windows “Welcome Logoâ€, press F8 and in the menu that now appears, hit one of the “boot into safe mode†options.

Malware/Spyware related -
These are great programs to have, but do not confuse them with anti-viruses. AV's can detect malware and these scanners COULD detect viruses, but my advice would be to have both types of scanners on your system.
The only two scanners I'd use for this are both freewares, the rest are honestly not needed.
MalwareBytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ) FREE Ed. And
Super AntiSpyware ( http://www.superantispyware.com/) - FREE -
Great detection; most tutorials sites on removing malware, tell you to use Malwarebytes anyway;
I have seen people with AV scanners like Norton think they are malware free and they (with computer issues) scan with MB and then they find they are loaded with malware.
