I'm getting a iPod touch for Christmas and I'm wondering if people on the chat will see a phone Icon next to my name on the sidebar. I want the phone icon next to my name so I can check my notification on my iPod.

Yes it will appear , the phone icon means that you're away from your iPod and will read the messages when u r back
