If he refuses to give his address and his whereabouts are unknown, you can ask the Court to grant service by publication.
This would entail taking a legal notice out in the newspaper informing your ex that he is being served and the allegations against him that are being heard before a Court. This is considered valid as if you had served him personally.
You could also try (depending on jurisdiction) to serve him via social media (ask the judge about this one). In Australia, a summons delivered by Facebook or Twitter is legally binding as if it had been delivered personally to the person to be served.
