Why do people think I'm a hipster? - Kathryn - 10-12-2012 07:57 AM

1. I listen to music like The Velvet Underground, Smashing Pumpkins, and The XX.
2. I love all forms of art and literature.
3. I dress somewhat normal, nothing to outlandish. I don't really care.
4. I don't care about the latest trends or what's "in"
5. I don't like tumblr, twitter, etc.

Sounds like you're too mainstream to be a hipster. Maybe if you showered...

- JenHunnyxoBabexx - 10-12-2012 08:06 AM

Maybe because you're unique

Because people are retarded and don't know anything. You don't look like a hipster (of that picture is of you your really pretty) to me. And people are just stupid.
But this is what hipsters are:
The subculture is associated with independent music, a varied non-mainstream fashion sensibility, and alternative lifestyles.
So people may take your indifference as hipster ish.

Yet you posted any of the main things about you that would possibly make you a hipster... Are you just looking for someone to label you so you don't have to? Because labeling would be too "mainstream"...

Cause you dont do what people normally do. Thats the whole point of being a hipster Smile

You don't sound like a hipster to me. You seem like a regular person with their own aesthetic and interests. It might be, because you are a bit individualistic. Then again the people saying this are just being silly.

Well the definition of hipster is a person that rejects mainstream values and goes out of their way to define the non-mainstream stuff as cool. Personally, I have a great dislike for hipsters, but I do believe that the term is applied wrongly a lot. The people who really have different values, likes, tastes, and don't like conformist stuff, I totally respect and can understand. I'm not considered a hipster, but I do have some deviant tastes..it's part of what separates us you know? My definition of hipsters are the people that deliberately go out of their way to reject mainstream stuff.

Luckily for you, you're a girl, so you won't get any flak for being a hipster - if you are one. From what you say, I don't think you are one. It's the hipster guys that look, act, and sound like they're gay that bother me. Like, shut the **** up and cool down, nobody is impressed by your high pitched voice that induces mental pain, or your skin tight jeans that show off your stick legs. Get a life and move on with your broken dreams of being the popular kid in middle school and high school...I wasn't one and I turned out just fine instead of trying to prove a point and doing stuff that I don't necessarily like myself.
