I've been using Twitter, but what good is it to get random people to follow me?

Twitter is becoming very popular!
Many are predicting doom and gloom for twitter but it isn't going anywhere!
You are correct that non-targeted followers aren't worth much for marketing purposes.

Head to http://twollow.com/ first - it will automatically follow people based on the keywords you specify.. big timesaver
I also use TweetLater.com to get a daily email based on what people in my field are chatting about and then I manually follow and interact with the ones I want to engage with.
Next.. list yourself and your business profile in all of the Twitter Directories - let people find you!

Also make sure that you have a link from your website and that you update all your online "social profiles" with a way to follow you on Twitter - and, add your twitter url to your email signature.

Dont listen to the spammers or the software systems that try to get your money, they're not even legit or could get your account suspended. To get more followers you must add people that are similar and participate in follow fridays.
