I'm making a new instagram, and I don't want anyone from my school following me, and I realized people can find me through their contacts, is there a way I can stop Facebook and my contacts from seeing me on instagram?

Yes, delete Facebook, and make a new Instagram without telling everybody about it

Yes. If you know their usernames, just go to their page and press the button with the square/arrow, and click block user. If your Instagram is connected with Facebook, you can find friends who are on Instagram and block them.
