Can the PlayStation 3 get a virus from surfing the web? - Michael Diroff - 02-28-2013 04:24 AM

Though the websites I visit on a daily basis(i.e Facebook, Amazon, YouTube) are about as safe as they can get, I'd like to know if the PS3 is currently susceptible to internet viruses.

If the PS3 was susceptible to viruses, (which i'm sure it is to an extent), someone would have to code a virus specifically to affect the PS3's operating system. Which I personally have never heard of happening, and I doubt will happen. Most viruses are coded to affect Windows machines, computers, not gaming consoles.

I've heard of a few cases, but in the end they turned out to be just a pop up that somebody wasn't expecting. Nothing more than regular advertising. As said, there's very little chance of getting a virus on PS3 by surfing the web - even less of a chance than on a Mac.

It can get STD's if you visit porn sites too much.
