Find people who have similar interests to you, music-wise etc. Look at the sort of people that follow more people than who follow them or who follow just a few less than who follow them. Retweet people who offer shoutouts etc. Have an interesting bio and username, have a profile picture of yourself. Most of all, tweet a lot.

RT people who say "RT for shout out" even though sometimes you've to follow them first. Talk to people who had +1000 followers. Be an attention seeker basically

Whatever you do, don't ask that question on Twitter! There's plenty of 'dodgy' sites selling fake followers.

If you want to get real followers it takes time. You have to work for them. I'd recommend doing the following:

1 - find people who are relevant to your interests/subject matter and follow them. If you're tweeting about similar things, they'll probably follow back.

2 - advertise your twitter account on your blog/website.

3 - keep an eye on #hashtags and latest trending events and see if you can comment on them with funny/interesting/relevant remarks/tweets.

4. build real world followers by using a Twitter rubber stamp to stamp your envelopes, compliments slips, and anything/everything else you can think of. (http://www.stampsdirect.co.uk/twitterbrrubber-stamps-171-c.asp)

5. Post plenty of tweets with videos/images - people LOVE images and video.

6. Experiment the best times of day to post on Twitter. Some reasearch shows 3pm on Wednesday is the best time of week for Retweets. Others say it's weekends. It depends on your target market, so be sure to do your research.

7. Do beg for more followers - you risk losing current ones.

8. Do a competition with an interesting prize. Encourage people to Retweet and follow to win. These sorts of things are big business at the moment.

Reward your followers with something special (for example afreebie, a coupon...)
