If a tragedy like Newtown, Connecticut happened in Canada would Americans care? - AjitPD - 02-28-2013 06:55 AM

I mean no disrespect to the victims by asking this but I do believe it is a valid social question.

The amount of coverage given to the shooting and amount of sympathy expressed for the victims by Canadian media and organizations make me wonder would we get the same response from Americans if, God forbid, such a tragedy took place in Canada.

I'd care

Yes, it would be all over the news. However, that would probably not happen.

When it happened in Russia it was all over our news channels for a while. Almost everybody but you cares if people are murdered by a cold blooded crazy man. And Children make it worst because they are innocent and cheated out of living a long live. So I know that almost everyone but you would care.

The same sympathy would be applicable to any country that the kind of tragedy that was inflicted upon the community of Connecticut happen. God forbid, that inhumane act was to happen in Canada. I hope that no other society or community should have to experience that despicable act that human beings are capable of inflicting on each other and when it happen to children it make it even more heinous.

Americans are the immigrants it just so happens that some of them are here longer than others so yes we would care about the rest of the world
.

We wouldn't care as much but we would still be shocked and horrified.

While the magnitude wouldn't be the same, that's just due to the fact that we aren't Canadian. Canadians, on the other hand, were shocked by this but would be more so if it happened on their soil.

Generally, the Canadians do have the advantage that the Americans would feel more for them than most other nationalities, given their proximity, relatedness to Americans, and the fact that Americans simply like Canadians better than most.

I remember when the bernado homolka case was unfolding, the united states media was involved and still is. The bernardo murders and rapes are unknown world wide.
