ok, I just got done watching the "social network" and? - PhD - 02-28-2013 08:08 AM

now I'm curious, I understand Facebook generates $$ off ads games, etc, but I am trying to understand how Zuckerberg's Facebook can be worth 25 billion? If it generates that much $$, who is it that is paying Facebook and why are corporations paying so much, because as user of FB, I know I haven't spent a penny, certainly not too any ads that have popped up when I'm in FB? Anyone have any insight to this?

The companies usually pay for exposure, and since FB has so many users, the amounts get quite high. Also, despite you not clicking on the ads, many probably do, generating even more money for FB in the process.

The amount of money a company is worth does not have much to do with how much money the company makes. It's more about the potential of the company to make money.

Facebook makes money from ads. They also make a cut from Facebook credits which are used to buy in-game items. They also make a lot of money selling usage and trend data that they collect.

The main reason their ads make so much money is because they know so much about you. They know where you live, how old you are, whether you're male or female, perhaps where you went to school, who your friends are, what your religious is, and so on.
