Celebrites Affected by the Media? - The Infected Rose - 02-28-2013 08:30 AM

I've to write an essay on how celebrities can be negative and positive influences on young people in society. One part however, must include examples of:
Celebrities who have been shattered by the media (criticised, their social status broken?)
Celebrities who have gained from the media (celebs who have grown because of the media, who have had positive press that have boosted their social status?)

I was wondering if anyone could give me a few examples of each as I have no idea about celebrity culture?
I think Demi Lovato would be an example of someone who has been criticised by media for being hospitalised for Bulimia? (Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm quite useless when it comes to celebrity facts)

Any examples are appreciated Smile

For the ones shattered by the media I'd say you'd have to include the Britney Spears for her breakdown a while ago (shaving her head, etc) because of the pressures of celebrity lifestyle (media attention, especially photographers following her everywhere could be cited as a prime reason for why it can be so stressful.)
Mel Gibson may be another - he was recorded by his wife or something making racially questionable comments and abusive ones - while those in themselves should have broken his career, it is reasonable to say that the media was the reason for it being wide spread knowledge and Mel became remembered for it.

For the ones who have gained would probably be the C-lister celebrities, think Paris Hilton, etc. socialites who are merely famous for having spelt with someone, or something along those lines; they only maintain their status because the media pays them attention.
It's quite hard to think of someone who boosted their status through positive press without it being pre-arranged with media to take photos... perhaps Christian Bale flying to visit the victims of the cinema shooting? He did it without causing a major field-day, relatively low key and private, but photos were taken and spread through media streams.

Sorry couldn't be more help that's all I could think of.
