and how do i advertise it legally? is putting links on social networks legal, or can't you make money from that too?

Sure it is.
It might be against the rules of whichever company you are using to host your blog, but most welcome it. The biggest blog hosting company in the world is Blogspot - and they have an option right on the design template to "monetize" your blog by having them place ads on each page that are - if their software works right - related to what your blog is about, and then you get a few cents per 'ad-click'.
