What location based social network apps are most popular? - Leo - 02-28-2013 12:57 PM

I'm looking for a location based social network app with mobile device support for at least Android and iPhone. The app would let you create a profile and tag certain interests, allowing you to view other people in the surrounding area with the same tagged interests. Location support would include cell tower based location method as well as GPS location method.

The app would preferably be open source and be free, but this is not essential.

Are you currently using one of these apps, or which are the most popular (ie, which app would I have the most success with)?

Thanks.

Make sure you don't set the app to tell everybody were you are at (when you are not home)
Thieves usually monitor FB & other social media sites to find out when people are not home, & then rob their house.
There is a website called PleaseRobMe that pulls location-based messages & lets thieves know when you are not home.

This website is not illegal because it is meant to show the dangers of over-sharing, & it is simply using the search feature built into social media that regular people (and thieves) regularly use.
