Is poking someone you don't know well on Facebook creepy? - ForeverYoung - 02-28-2013 02:16 PM

So some people say that poking someone on Facebook means you want to have sex with them, but when I poke someone I'm just trying to say hi without actually saying it because I'm shy. I'd like to know what everyone thinks about pokes on Facebook. What do they mean to you? Is it weird/creepy if someone you don't know super well, but that you're an acquaintance with, pokes you randomly?
I'm really shy but I've been trying to be slightly more outgoing lately, so I was thinking of poking some people on Facebook to just say hey, but I don't want to be creepy.

I don't know about the "sex" thing but when someone pokes me I know that he/she wants to talk with me or just develop the friendship. I don't think its weird but if someone is not interested then well what can you say?

I have never heard that poking someone on Facebook could have sexual connotations. To me pokes are like pokes in real life (lol weird yes i know) and i just do it for fun. And if someone i didn't know randomly poked me, im not exactly sure what i would think. I guess it depends on the person. If they were friendly then i'd take it in a good way. Maybe posting a friendly hello (with a smiley face maybe?) on their wall would help

To me it is personally annoying getting a poke fest going. But if you try and poke them once and they poke you back start a conversation right away. It's not creepy unless you really don't know the person. But if you guys have talked in person at least twice then I would go for it.
