I really want to deactivate my facebook but I can't fall off the grid because I'm a media student and social media is important. However, I'm just not using the site much.

I got sick of Facebook a long time ago, I don't know what "numbers game" you're talking about, but can't you consider Y!A as your social media activity instead of Facebook?
