No, it is not. To quote from http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=107680294572#/topic.php?uid=107680294572&topic=10511

"First of all, if you don't believe what I'm saying here, check with well respected security firms such as Sophos, who I am sure will be appearing on the national news soon at the rate the fears over this application are growing.

Secondly, if you're reading this, chances are you're worried. Calm down. The problem is easier to solve when you are thinking calmly and clearly. I have taken time to check this information is correct, so please take time to read it carefully.

FACT 1: The Fan Check application is NOT a virus. It does, however, mess up your 'Wall' and other parts of Facebook - not by destroying information, but because it doesn't work properly your wall and other parts of Facebook wont display correctly. It doesn't do any damage itself.

FACT 2: If you go searching for "Facebook Fan Check Virus" on Google or other search engines, you'll find a lot of website claiming that they offer a fix for the virus, and that they are security tools. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. These applications are Scareware / Malware - that means they are designed to frighten you into downloading them. THOSE APPLICATIONS ARE THEMSELVES DAMAGING TO YOUR COMPUTER. I have seen first-hand how much damage they can do. Sophos are already detecting those fake applications.

The fix for the problems Fan Check cause are simple - remove it, and everything will go back to normal.

To protect your computer, go to a recognised security form, such as Eset (http://www.avast.com). You can verify these are genuine by looking in any of the popular computer magazines in your newsagent, as they are all advertised and reviewed regularly."
