How does everyone feel about tying Social Security to the stock market? - the phantom - 10-12-2012 08:10 AM

I asked this same question about nine months ago, and I am going back and re-reading the responses to them. Some of them are quite humorous (unintentionally). Some are very naive. Well, what say ye alle now?

obviously now would not be very good to retire if we had. However I feel kind of sad whenever I see all the money that goes toward Social Security that I do not expect to get back because the baby boomers will use it all up, they are already crowding hospitals and it is just the very very beginning. But idk its a risk either way. so far 401ks are your best bet i assume.

They are both high risk investments where you put money without high probability of return.

For just what happened to market prices is reason not to tie Social Security to the stock market. The government won't let it go belly up because the results would be a disaster. Fortunately, the 401k and ira's will supplement any pensions for future retirees with maybe a lesser amount from Social Security. For baby boomers, those vehicles were not in place early enough for the growth/time factors to be advantageous. We hear more about saving and preparing for our golden years so more of us will be prepared and have a plan.
