I see when a girl update nonsense she'll get tonnes of comment and likes, but when boys do that barely 5 or 6 likes and 3 comments

Men tend to pursue women, rather then women pursuing men. So Men might like, comment, or message women more than they do to men.

You're going to have to be pretty popular to get even half as many likes as a girl. It's just the hard truth that everyone likes girls better than guys. (I'm a guy, so I totally feel your pain)
If you want more notifications and likes, I recommend posting pictures you took on Instagram. A picture says a thousand words, so make sure it's a good one! Give it a SHORT, fun description. Also, don't post and share random junk too much or people will hate you for filling up their newsfeed.
There's a lot more I could say, but I think you get the idea.
