Some good majors for a brazilian student in an American university? - Carolina - 10-12-2012 08:12 AM

I hope you don't all open your judgmental eyes and start assuming I'm one of those dirty Latin Americans stealing all your jobs before you answer this.

I'm a full brazilian, but I have lived in Colombia and China as well as my home country. I have been studying in all-American international schools since the 3rd grade, and therefore speak fluent English, Spanish and Portuguese. I'm currently living in China so I should also be fluent in Mandarin before I leave to go to university.

Basically, I'm looking for something that I can use my talent for languages and writing for. I'm a very good writer, will soon be fluent in four languages, and I'm a good public speaker. I'm great with working with people, and therefore social studies. I'm NOT good however, at the sciences, arts or mathematics. So nothing involving health, business, engineering, architecture, design, art, any of that.

What I'm looking at is something along the lines of International Relations, Marketing, etc. Something involving the humanities. I'm considering economy but I just love words and hate numbers. All of my teachers tell me I have great talent for psychology, I have a 95% in my AP Psychology class right now, but I hear Psychology is not a very good major.

My plan is to do university in the United States, then move back to my country, Brazil, to work. This means I can't study Law as much as I'd like to, because it's no good to learn US law if I won't be working or living in the US. Anyone any suggestions of majors I could do? Thank you! Smile

I doubt people will dislike you for being a Brazilian. Most of the racism against Latinos is against Mexicans and Cubans.

That being said, there are plenty of majors to choose from. Choose what ever one interests you and what ever one you want to make money with.
