Why can't I get on my Facebook? - Person - 03-02-2013 10:36 AM

For the past couple of weeks, every time I go to facebook.com on my laptop, it just says "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" but my internet access is fine, I'm able to go on any other site. I can use my Facebook just fine from my phone and iPod touch. I also tried going on through another computer and it would either display the same message, or take me to some other site that I've never heard of. What's going on? How can I fix this?

Thanks to anyone that can help!

Could be the URL address or even the wifi connection. I assume it could also be blocked. Try calling the Internet service provider for more info though

Sounds like a virus that's proxying you to other sites.

I would immediately run Avast! and Malware Bytes (personally).

You could also check msconfig by either searching "msconfig" in the start bar, or by going run -> cmd -> msconfig.exe

In msconfig, go to your startup tab, and disable everything, then select things you KNOW you WANT on startup (typically nothing, and this will speed up your startup time DRASTICALLY).

you could try some other various antivirus, however I find Avast! and Malwarebytes to be good, reliable, and they both have free trials.

You could also try clearing your cache. Depending on your browser you can go through your settings and clear all cookies/browsing history/cache/saved passwords/etc. This could be a possible solution to your problem as well. If you wanted a thorough sweep of this, you could run CCleaner too.

Good luck!

Edit: To contradict other statements made by other people:
If your getting connection to other sites there's nothing wrong with your cords, or modem or router.
If your getting connection through your Ipod, then your ISP isn't blocking it (assuming your using Wifi in your house.)

That rules out anything but a virus, really. Unless someone has installed a "net nanny" type program to prevent users on that computer from going to facebook.

It's not your Facebook account problem.it's just your browser / internet problem, rest your internet settings and clean your browser history
