Does it cost to use your mobile phone abroad? - Samantha - 03-25-2013 09:29 PM

I am from England and, I am with the mobile operator EE/Orange and, I was wondering while out there if I am able to use apps such as Facebook/Whatsapp/Skype etc at no extra cost?

Hey, it's expensive enough at home.......
But out there -- Aaaaargh! That's where they really rip us off big time.

If you use network data, you will have to pay for that data at international rates. Data used abroad is not included in any allowances your tariff provides and is charged at a higher international rate, especially outside of the EU.

Look on the EE website for details of exactly how much.

If you hotel etc. provides wifi, use it instead.

They charged me $1 a minute plus roaming fees to use it in London. They're called "cell phones" on this side of the pond.

Samantha I went to France in October, I was wary of using my mobile because of the costs. I would turn phone on quickly check messages and turn back off. After 4 days I spent £50! Luckily I was PAYG otherwise it would have been so much higher. Buy a PAYG sim in the country your going to, it's worth it!
