Is it a good idea to put someones social security number on facebook? - that chick - 03-26-2013 09:19 AM

Ok, Long story short, my best friend put her dad's old college ID card ( from 1976) on her facebook page. SHe was comparing her picture and his picture and how much they look alike. However, on his college ID it has a number that looked like a social security number, and his birthdate on the card---- for the whole world to see on facebook because she has 1,000 friends. SO- I called him- and he was upset about it and demanded she take it down, I feel awful. Because she is so mad at me... but I felt like it was the right thing to do. I didn't want to confront her myself because I knew she would just get mad and keep it up there.... and I thought it was right to tell him, so if someone steals his identity he would know... or be on the look out for it-- Did I do the right thing?

what she did was a violation.. not just on facebook.

couldn't she just have edited the image to remove all the sensitive information? people must learn these things.

she put her father's information at risk... that's real bad news.

If you had enough sense to protect your friends father I think you know you did the right thing.

You did the right thing. It should have never been posted. Hopefully no dirt balls got a hold of it.

Of course it is not a good idea to put anyone's social security number on a social network web site for all to see.

People are too free with information they give and over the course of time, putting all the facts together can cause drama in ones life unless they care careful about what they reveal for everyone to know.

Including this silly oversight about the SS number. I would have told her if she did not immediately delete the information, I would call her dad. This would have given her the opportunity to right the wrong without her dad even finding out about it. That would have been the right order to accomplish your goal of having that information removed.
