What are the pros and cons of social networking sites? - Jay - 04-16-2013 01:34 AM

I just recently deleted my twitter my instagram and I'm going to delete my facebook. I always admired people who never got involved in social networking sites but I must admit they are addictive. I just want to know the pros and cons on them. Like do you feel it is necessary to even have them? I must say I do miss my instagram account!

I've never had a social network account as:
-you end up wasting your time on it
-why would I want to add people that I'll see at college the next day anyway?
-you end up adding people you don't really like
-I don't like how it gives (attention whores) a platform

---

I have a YouTube account though, various forums (and of course Yahoo!) as these are all things I'm interested in. For my YouTube account I upload trance and dubstep mixes which I absolutely love. I'm a member of a trance, programming and graphics design forum as these are all interests/hobbies. Oh, not to mention Yahoo answers is good for a great rant!

Why would I want to know about someon's new haircut or how drunk they got on the weekend?

The only pro I can think of is that it's a great way of being able to connect with friends who don't live close to you.
Other than that it seems unnecessary in every way possible.

If you want to know prons and cons on them, I think you can find this information on the web without asking this question here. It personally strikes me and makes me very very sad that the majority of people do have a social network account, and many with hundreds of pictures uploaded.
