Does the website Deviant Art give computers viruses? - Avi-chan - 04-25-2013 06:24 PM

I've been going on Deviantart for about four of five months and my PC had over 100 viruses by the time I took it to a Pawn shop to get it wiped out. The computer I've been using recently belongs to my room mate and he just got a notice from his security program that he has nearly 50. Other websites I often use are Facebook, Youtube, TheOtaku, yahoomail, and MyLifeIsAverage. Is this just coincidence or could Deviantart be the problem?

Any website you go on can give you a virus, Deviant Art in particular is not giving you the viruses.

ANY site you download files from that other users uploaded may give you viruses, because the people uploading the files may have viruses, and the files they upload may get infected. So Deviantart could be the problem, so could Facebook, any email provider (people send emails with viruses, or with links to sites that have viruses that your browser downloads as soon as it connects to the site) or any other place you downloaded files from. Certain sites are known to be safe. Learn which they are and restrict your downloads to them. Sites like CNet, Sourceforge and Freshmeat.
