How to get anorexia help? - Millycookie12 - 04-25-2013 10:11 PM

Hi,
I am 21 years old, 5ft 7inches and I currently weigh 7stone 11 pounds (109lbs).
I have a bmi of 17.1, I hardly eat and I abuse laxatives daily!
I think I have an eating disorder but my doctor has over looked my concerns before! Is there another way to get help?

Hi, your BMI reading is in the category 'Mild Thinness'. Apparently, less than 16 is considered serious.

That said, you are getting close enough to be a concern. I think GPs are so hard pressed they can only refer serious cases.

I suggest you try the Counselling route. There are numerous volunteer (free) such practitioners. They can make a big difference. In your case maybe enough to stem this. If, however, they think you are needing a Therapist, then they will refer. Unfortunately this will be very expensive. Alternatively, you could return to your doctor saying that an expert considers you a "serious case". Then you might get to see an NHS consultant for free.

To find a counsellor you could do an online search, aswell as 'Yellow Pages' etc. Also, if on Twitter, you can find counsellors and therapists there. Just use #hashtags, such as these below :-

#Counselling #UK
#MH #UK
#MHchat #UK.

There are several others.

If I may try some counselling just now, you need to be aware that you could get serious digestive disease, brittle bones (like "little old ladies") and even bowel cancer. Therefore stop this dieting, while you're young, before it's too late!
