I want to turn my facebook chat off, because my friends are doing it to me! before you tell me how to do it can they just enable chat to only specific friends ?

At the bottom of your Facebook chat, click on the little circular thing that looks like a wheel (Settings button). Either click "Turn off chat" to go offline, or click "Advanced Settings..." to edit specific lists. Under the Advanced settings, you can enable chat to specific friends.

To turn chat on or off:
-Click Chat in the lower right corner of your screen
-Click the gear menu in the chat sidebar
-Select Turn On Chat or Turn Off Chat
If you've previously turned on chat for only some of your friends, chat will only be on for those friends. For example: If you have chat on for only 3 friends, turn off chat, then turn it back on, chat will still only be on for those 3 friends.

To turn on chat for more or all of your friends, you'll need to adjust what friends you're on chat for.

when u open the chat menu.. at the bottom right .. there's a wheel .. press it and there's the option of turning off your chat, or just appearing offline to all your friends.
if u wanna be available for only some friends, u have to check advanced settings, where u can either be offline or online to only some of your friends...
