In Texas, if your family is in the adoption process, are we not allowed to have a facebook profile? - bailey - 04-29-2013 08:22 PM

I'm 17, my parents divorced, custody battle, ect ect. now I'm in Texas, my mom and step dad told me that I can't have facebook because we are in the process of adopting a teenage kid. Is this true? or is this some bs my mom is telling me because they don't want me contacting my dad?

Only Someone that works in adoption in Texas or in the adoption process within the last year answer please!
Also, are we not allowed to have guns in the house at all? even if they're locked up?

There would be no such law.

Most likely my guess is because during an adoption process the family is looked at pretty much like they are under a microscope. Your parents don't want to take a chance that something posted on Facebook could hurt their chances of the adoption.

We have a family friend who has been trying to adopt their foster child for the past 2yrs. We are not in TX. But my friend, her husband and the foster child are all on Facebook. But they never make the adoption process public. Even when we speak about it in church it isn't written on the public prayer board.

As for guns I could see social services having a problem with that but honestly I'm not sure. We live in an area where hunting is very common. Even our pastor has guns. lol But I'm not sure about the TX laws, guns and adoption.

It will depend upon the agency that you are adopting through.
