Can a class actions suit for libel/defamation be filed by several groups harassed by an individual? - Lois - 04-30-2013 12:15 AM

There is a Facebook page run by 1 or 3 individuals. They spend all their time making false accusations, libelous comments, and damaging reputations of other businesses and organizations. That is all they do. They call it "informing the public" but over and over again their statements are proven false. Can several groups they have targeted ban together to do a class action against them?

No, they can not. That is not how a class is formed, now how it works. They could sue as co-plaintiffs, but it would be almost impossible for them to win. They would have to prove that the company maliciously hurt their business and be able to substantiate how it was hurt. Just citing Facebook is likely to get the case thrown out and I don't know anyone who would represent a plaintiff in a case based on what someone said on Facebook.
