I clicked on one of those Facebook viruses...? - kipreiserer - 04-30-2013 07:34 AM

I think it was one. It said something about a girl killing herself after her dad posted something on her wall. I clicked on it and immediately realized it was fake, even really before the next screen loaded. Do you usually have to click more stuff on the window that pops up to catch a facebook virus like that?

Not always, it really depends. Some viruses will download right when you click on something like that and with others you would end up having to continue to the next link to the virus.

I actually clicked on this same one. The relief of facebook viruses are that they seldom infect your computer, but rather infect your facebook account. A lot of these things take you to a page that ask you to allow it access privileges like wall posting, and require you grant these permissions before you can see the story about the girl killing herself.

An easy way to find out is to look at your wall and your friend's walls, if there's record of you posting anything you don't remember posting, or something obviously fishy like "Hey guys, found this iPad for ten bucks on this site..." then you probably have a virus. Go through your applications and delete all the ones you don't use and this will probably solve the problem.

Feel free to mail me if you have any other questions.
