I have a mac and I think just opened a facebook virus? - ncluvr422 - 04-30-2013 11:31 PM

I have a macbook, and I am pretty sure i opened a facebook virus. I clicked on a link from a friend that said she had a video of me and it redirected me to another facebook page and stupid me typed in my username and password. Does anyone know what kind of virus this is? if it is infecting my computer, should i be using it? I am worried because i dont know if it is infected or not. Please only serious answers.. thanks!

It's called phishing. Change your login information immediately.

It's a trick they use to dupe people into giving them their login credentials, then they spam all of your friends with adverts. It's easily fixed, but you should get on it before they start spamming your friends, because having been on the receiving end, it's really annoying.

Also, it'll send the same link you got duped by to your friends and steal theirs too if they click it. Log in, and post an advisory not to click any strange video links, or it'll move about your friends network like wildfire.

Log into facebook asap and change your password. Then be on the lookout for random messages like the one you fell for going to your friends. You may want to warn them if you see some. I don't think it gives you any malware on your mac.

This isn't actually a virus. It is a simple hacking technique in which a hacker posts a link and tricks you into clicking it. Once you clikc it, they present you with a webpage that looks like a facebook login. If you login to it, you are giving your username and password to the hacker. This is NOT a virus. This is a common issue on social networks, so please be very careful when clicking links. If you ever click a link on facebook and are asked to log back in, check the URL bar and makesure the address says facebook.com before logging in.

Jeremy is right: Change your password as soon as possible or recover your password if it has been changed.
