Has social Media devalued the power of photos? - beast42 - 05-01-2013 07:52 AM

Has social media improved the power, or hurt the power of the photo? There are iconic social media photos that get spread around the web like wildfire, but since people post so many photos to the point where it is overkill has that hurt the power of the photo? An example of this is when a Navy sailor returns home after WWII bends a nurse over and kisses her in the middle of commotion and chaos this photo is more influential than any social media photo ever. There are plenty more examples I can list but photos before social media seem to live on, while social media photos live for about three months then lose a significant amount of popularity. What is your opinion will a very influential photo come out of social media?

Have you heard the latest liberal commotion about the photo? It's off the chart.

Photos still have impact, but less so than video.

There was one photo recently that stood out in my mind. It was at Sandy Hook. A girl was on the phone in shock and tears because she just found out that her sister was one of the victims. Pictures like that, that sum up a particular event and capture a moment in time, will always have value. I'll remember that photo the same way I remember the famous Kent State photo. I still find it painful to look at.

personally i think it's added value. look at how powerful a photo is when something either shocking, sad, happy, cute can gain so much traction across diff countries and diff cultures just because it was posted on a social network.
