to my knowledge you don't buy twitter followers they can follow you for free why buy them?

If you buy followers then you can do a number of things:
Be popular (on twitter, for a short period of time)
Have tons of followers.
Possibly make money (tweet about sponsers, they pay if your followers click - so many accounts have numerous follower though so the amount of money raised wouldn't be as much as say the amount when Twitter first began).
Waste money.

They can't get enough people to read their inane drivel so they have to buy followers.
When they have bought that lot, they can't be bothered to read it either!
Quite sad really that you have to spend money to get people to follow you
because you have no friends who are not interested in anything you write!
