Hi,

Check the control panel, sound and see if they are listed as being enabled and are the default.

It could be that your sound card drivers need re-installing so go to the Dell site, support and download the drivers then install them and see if that helps.

Do you get any sound at all through the pc's internal speaker, such as normal windows sounds?

Hi Kieren,
My name is Krishna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
Based on your description, the issue is more likely related to the audio drivers. Please visit http://www.support.dell.com/ and input your Service Tag to get updated drivers specific to your computer.

If that doesn't help, try running the Dell Diagnostics Audio Tests. If it fails the speaker tests, then it is a hardware failure. You can follow the instructions from http://dell.to/g8qNbJ
