Yes, my volume is on, and I can hear other things like youtube videos and stuff but when it comes to facebook and other online things, I don't hear anything when it comes to getting a new IM, getting a new notification. Nothing. I'd really like to hear the sounds so I know if someone tried to contact me or anything but I can't understand what's wrong with my computer. Can anyone tell me what's happening with my body?

Try removing the sound notification on these accounts.
Close your browser
Open your browser
Log into the accounts
Re-enable the sound notification.

Facebook is currently changing their "notification sound", and they're only using selected accounts for the trial, so that may be why you're not hearing anything right now.
