We've chatted a few times about random things on Facebook. She invited me to her house back when we were in high school but I said no because I knew my mother wouldn't let me because the girl's parents were divorced and her mother had a boyfriend (my mother thought that any man who would go out with a woman with children was a child molester). I've seen all the things she's doing now and she sounds very interesting. Al my friends from high school have gone into academia and I've gone elsewhere (I run an antiques store). I'm 26. What's a good way to reconnect?

Ask via Facebook if there is a way your friend would see in a very public at a specific time. If there a hesitation, the forget about it.

It seems you are really in trouble. As your mom don't like to meet her; you can find a way out alternately. You can request her through facebook and try to make a date far away from your mom as you are adult enough.
